Goals, Values, Vision

We are passionate about raising meat for our community in ways that brings health, beauty and wholeness.  Our world needs caretakers of the biotic community-  humans, animals, plants, soil, water and air. That’s why our farm and microtannery is named Stewards Provisons.

Stewardship: caring for what is not ours, as if it was. With professional training in medicine and hydrogeology, we care deeply about the health of our animals, soils, water and community.

Provision: supplying the basic needs of our community by partnering and cultivating soil-water-plant-animal relationships.

We have been rotationally grazing sheep for 7 years and raising chickens for eggs and meat for 8 years in Dexter.  Last year we expanded our flock and started the farm business along with a farm-scale natural tannery focused on sheepskins. We partner with another family which had 15 acres of un-used pastures which we have rotationally grazed the last two years.

We would love to buy land which allows us to grow the flock to at least 100 head while supporting generous portions of wildlife habitat like native wildflower meadows and silvopasture.

Organic Practices

We currently partner with a farm to rotationally graze about 15 acres of pasture with sheep from May-December using temporary electric fencing. We raise broiler and layer chickens on our smaller home farm land. We also have a small tannery using only organic ingredients consisting primarily of bark tannins for preparing sheepskins. We hope to process about 300 sheepskins for other farmers this year.
