Taryn Indish
I'm Taryn Indish, currently living in Traverse City, MI, and deeply passionate about off-grid homesteading. My ultimate goal is to create a self-sustaining community of my own. I work as the EcoCorps Crew Lead at SEEDS Ecology & Education, and my background spans general carpentry, farming, gardening, landscaping, and hospitality.
I hold an associate's degree in freshwater science and chemistry and am part of the Grand Traverse Conservation Districts Incubator Farm program, focusing on large-scale organic farming. My practical experience includes sustainable trail building, step and retaining wall construction, barrier post and fence installation, and tool maintenance. I’m adept at chainsaw operation, tree felling, planting, and tubing. I am chainsaw level two certified and wilderness first aid certified.
I also have hands-on expertise in environmental and agricultural work, including brush clearing, invasive species control, live trapping and relocating animals, mushroom cultivation, and native plant management. My skills also encompass soil remediation, erosion management, and water quality assessments. My gardening and farming experience covers permaculture, organic farming, foraging, food preservation, and cooking.
My involvement with the NMC Green Team and experience working at farmers markets have further enhanced my abilities in community networking, event planning, and marketing.
I’m eager to grow my skills in carpentry, renewable energy, gardening, and food preservation.
