Goals, Values, Vision

I currently live on one acre in North Carolina.  I have been "farming" for the 20 years that I have lived here.  Though my farming is mostly large scale gardening.  We produce enough fruit and vegetables to sell some to neighbors, as well as chicken and duck eggs.  We have a small farm stand out front that is self serve that our neighbors appreciate.  I am a woodworker well so I also sell some small things on the stand related to that.

I am from Michigan originally, and I am considering coming home if I can find the right opportunity to build a legacy farm for my family.  My goal is to provide enough for my family, and sell to my local community using sustainable practices including regenerative farming, food forestry, silviculture, and other sustainable farming methods and to build a future for my children and theirs.  My focus is to provide nutritious food for my family and community without the use of chemicals or pesticides.  I want to leave this world having done all I can to build up the land, and put in far more than I take out.

Organic Practices

I currently use regenerative agriculture, sheet mulching with fall leaves and organic matter. I have a policy of building soil as first priority.  I have created a food forest and would like to continue to do so on a larger scale.

When I plant I prefer perennial providers rather than row crops. I plant companion species that feed and benefit each other.  I practice this with my fruits and vegetables as well as with the trees I plant for various purposes.
