In early 2025, I quit my job title as North America Product Technical Lead and Business Acquisition in High Voltage Powertrain and Charging Systems for a Tier 1 automotive supplier. I was burned out, wanted to be home for two young kids (4 and 1 years old) and pursue my passion. But I’ve been hitting roadblocks with my small, heavily tree covered residential property in the city of Royal Oak.

I’ve dreamed my entire life of owning a small scale farm, to grow accessible produce for others and teach others how to do it themselves. I have my bachelors in biology and mechanical engineering, I initially focused in botany, but living in metro Detroit my entire life was influenced to pursue engineering for financial success. I participated in the Master Gardener program and have maintained large residential vegetable gardens since I was a kid. I also currently have 14 backyard chickens, and have kept a small flock for the past 5 years, providing eggs to my neighbors. 

I have been hindered in saving funds for land by student loans, costs of childcare (2 little girls), and the increasing cost of living.

What would help me move quickly is a partner and land access. I want to work close to the community. I have only just started reaching out to as many farm owners and organizations as possible, so it’s really the beginning of this journey for me.

I am looking for any help, guidance, recommendations to upgrade title from that gardener, chicken lady engineer to full time community farmer.
