Codie Lovell

While I may not be “actively farming” I have been actively gardening for years and grew up around farms. I rescued 22 chickens this year, and since then we’ve been looking to take on more animals and expand what we’re currently doing with our little farm stand. Only problem being, we don’t currently have the space. The work ethic is alive and well though.

Goals, Values, Vision

The goal would be to open a farm where families can come and have reasonably priced fun and learn the inner workings of a farm. In an attempt to keep down costs, I’d plan around attempting to rescue animals when possible, use regenerative methods for animal feed and use rain water catch systems to water animals and crops. I’d like to also save money by making use of what’s around me whether it’s trees, a place giving away free pallets etc. I’d hope to be harvesting wool from sheep, alpaca, and llamas. Using some of the things collected from the animals it would be nice to make various products as well.

I currently am running my own business as a handyman and painter. I was working for 6 years as an over the road reefer tech/installer. I can fix nearly anything as long as it’s not jammed with computers and processors.

Farming Plans and Practices

Certified Organic, Organic Practices

I plan to use the most natural means possible to keep the garden pest free, looking good, and productive. Some examples would be allowing chickens to run through the garden areas end of season, using various plants like marigolds, mint, mums, basil, etc. to keep pests away. And of course, composting.
