I'm in my 30s and am seeking a career shift. I'm deeply passionate about sustainable food production and I'm interested in this career because I believe sustainable farming is now the best way to create positive change in the local environment and community.
I currently live in the Front Range of Colorado. I've been obsessed with gardening for over 20 years. I work part-time at a local organic farm near Longmont, CO to build my experience. I'm also pursuing formal agricultural education through sustainable farming coursework. I grew up in the rural Midwest and am looking for property within driving distance of family in Illinois.
I envision a small-scale market garden that I hope to expand bit-by-bit over time. Beyond vegetables, I'm also interested in growing herbs for dried tea and flowers for cut flowers/bouquets. I do not plan on having employees initially. My fiancé works full-time but would be an important partner in her free time. I'd like to move toward a small CSA operation eventually once I start to develop connections with the community.
