Hood Rich Earth Work is a Detroit-based farm and education project led by Najah Naimah, an urban herbalist, grower, and educator rooted in Traditional Ecological Knowledge. The name reflects being neighborhood-rich, tending rich earth, and doing the work of the land. The farm focuses on culturally significant herbs, soil health, and value-added botanical products, and seeks farmland with an existing home structure to expand stewardship and growing practices.

Goals, Values, Vision
My goal is to expand an existing land-based operation into a permanent farm rooted in stewardship, cultural continuity, and long-term care of the soil. I am seeking land where I can fully immerse myself—living on the land and working it as an integrated way of life, not a side project. My vision is a small, intentional farm focused on culturally significant herbs, soil regeneration, and value-added botanical products, alongside seasonal education and community workshops.
I bring skills in herb cultivation, processing, education, land stewardship, and program coordination, with experience translating Traditional Ecological Knowledge into practical, place-based farming systems. I value reciprocity with the land, consistency, and deep attention to soil health, and I am committed to caring for the land as if there is no other option—because for me, there isn’t.

Farming Method
Organic Practices
The farm uses organic, regenerative practices rooted in Traditional Ecological Knowledge. Growing beds are built using old logs as a base (hugelkultur-style) and framed with dead-hedging techniques, supporting soil life, moisture retention, and long-term fertility. Practices include composting, mulching, low- or no-till methods, biodiversity-focused planting, and avoiding synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. The approach centers on working with natural systems and caring for the land through observation, adaptation, and stewardship rather than extraction.
