Goals, Values, Vision

My vision is to restore a generational legacy. I come from a long lineage of farmers, and both my wife and I spent our formative years on dairy farms. We aren’t looking for a "hobby"; we are looking to return to our roots and establish a productive, permanent homestead for our three children.

As a writer and a 100% disabled veteran, my goal is to create a "Therapeutic Working Farm." I plan to use the daily rhythms of agriculture to not only sustain my family but to eventually provide a space where other veterans can find the same healing and purpose that land-based work provides.

Currently, our family resides in the city of Cadillac. A return to a rural setting, in addition to everything already mentioned, would also help alleviate symptoms of my military trauma.

Organic Practices

As a veteran-led family, we are committed to Organic Practices and regenerative stewardship. Our goal is to eventually achieve USDA Organic Certification.

We would like to utilize the USDA Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP) to work with a mentor during our first three years.

We are specifically interested in methods that restore soil health and biodiversity, such as rotational grazing (drawing on our dairy backgrounds) and cover cropping.

As a writer, I also intend to document our organic transition to help educate other veterans on the therapeutic and environmental benefits of sustainable farming.
