Lower Than Dirt

Lower Than Dirt is a regenerative agriculture project focused on restoring soil health, rebuilding ecosystems, and creating a diversified, small-scale farm that can support a modest family income. The goal is to transform underutilized land into a productive, living system that improves over time rather than depleting resources. The project is built on core regenerative principles: minimizing soil disturbance, maintaining living roots, increasing biodiversity, and cycling organic matter to rebu

Goals, Values, Vision

My vision is to build a small, regenerative farm that produces food, medicine, and soil health at the same time. I’m not trying to scale into industrial agriculture—I want to create a resilient, diversified system that supports my family while improving the land year after year.

In the near term, I’m focused on specialty mushroom production (lion’s mane and oyster) as a primary income stream. Mushrooms allow me to generate revenue quickly with low startup costs while using agricultural byproducts. Alongside that, I’m building compost systems using local materials like horse manure and wood chips to create living soil. Over time, I plan to expand into agroforestry, food forests, and small-scale crops like vegetables, herbs, and medicinal plants—stacking multiple income streams in a way that mimics natural ecosystems.

Long term, I want the farm to function like a living system—diverse, self-sustaining, and regenerative. That means healthier soil, better water retention, increased biodiversity, and a space that produces high-quality food while also restoring the land.

My background is in agriculture operations, where I’ve worked hands-on with fertilizer, soil inputs, and crop systems. That experience has shown me both how modern systems work and where they fall short. It’s pushed me toward regenerative practices that focus on biology instead of just inputs.

What I bring to this is a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and an experimental mindset. I’m actively studying soil health, composting, and fungi-based systems, and I’m committed to documenting what works and what doesn’t. I’m also focused on building relationships—whether that’s with local chefs, markets, or others in the farming community.

At the end of the day, I’m trying to build something real and lasting: a farm that provides for my family, contributes to the local food system, and leaves the land better than I found it.
