Goals, Values, Vision
My goal is to create a small, productive farm focused on growing food naturally, improving the soil, and becoming increasingly self-sufficient. I am interested in growing a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, fruit, and other crops, while also raising chickens and potentially adding other small livestock over time. I want to use organic and regenerative growing methods, composting, natural soil building, and other practices that improve the land rather than deplete it.
I am looking for a property where I can put down roots and build gradually. I enjoy learning, working with my hands, gardening, caring for animals, and finding practical ways to make the most of what is available. Long term, I would like the farm to provide food for myself while also creating opportunities to sell or share what I produce locally.

Organic Practices
My goal is to create a diverse, productive farm using organic and regenerative farming methods that work with the land and build healthier soil over time. I am especially interested in no-till or low-till growing, composting, cover crops, crop rotation, companion planting, mulching, and using leaves, wood chips and other natural materials to continually add organic matter back into the soil. I am also interested in incorporating permaculture principles, native and perennial plants, pollinator habitat, and growing methods that reduce the need for synthetic fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides.
I would like to grow a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers, with chickens incorporated into the farm and the possibility of other livestock as the farm grows. Animals can also be part of the land-management system through rotational grazing, natural fertilization and pest control where appropriate.
My long-term goal is to build a farm that becomes more productive and self-sustaining over time, while improving soil health, biodiversity and the overall condition of the land. I am very interested in both traditional farming knowledge and practical older methods, while continuing to learn and adapt based on what works best for the property and Michigan's growing conditions.
