Tyler Musgrave

My name’s Tyler M! I’m currently a doctoral student at the University of Michigan, focusing on technology, and I also run my own conflict mediation practice. I’ve lived in many parts of the world, including serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. While I grew up in rural Maryland, I’ve also spent time in California, NYC, and abroad. Now, I’m setting my sights on Michigan, where I hope to own a piece of farmland one day. I’m open to exploring different arrangements—whether that’s rent-to-own, work-to-own, gifting (if you support reparations), or an owner sale. What’s most important to me is working with someone who shares my values, especially when it comes to keeping farms in the hands of real folks and out of the control of big corporations or mega-farms.

Goals, Values, Vision

Thanks for reaching out! My future farming plans are still in the early stages, but my vision is to create a sustainable, community-centered farm that supports local food systems and values the land, people, and the environment. I want to focus on regenerative agriculture, growing healthy food in ways that enrich the soil and promote biodiversity. I also hope to provide space for educational workshops, community gatherings, and possibly a market where locals can come together and share resources.

Though I have little money at the moment, I’m committed to finding creative ways to make this vision a reality and am looking for others who share similar values. Right now, I'm in my PhD program at U of M in the field of information, where I study online safety. Additionally, I own a conflict mediation practice. My skills in conflict mediation will help me navigate the challenges of building a farm operation—whether it’s resolving disputes or working collaboratively with others. I’ve lived in rural communities and abroad, which has taught me the value of resourcefulness and building strong, supportive relationships.

I’m open to learning more hands-on farming skills and gaining experience along the way, and I’m excited to connect with folks who believe in keeping farms local, resisting corporate takeovers, and building sustainable futures together.
