Doug

I am interested in starting my own market farm business focused on integrating sustainable practices and the community. Primarily I would be producing culinary mushrooms indoors with large scale composting, greenhouse vegetables, poultry, and possibly figs outdoors. I am looking for sufficient indoor space for the mushroom production with at least 1/2 acre of outdoor space, though I would be able to use a lot more. Willing to work together with existing land/farm owners!

Goals, Values, Vision

My goals are to create a farm that grows quality produce while creating sustainable systems that other farms and communities can implement. I envision utilizing farm wastes such as heat, carbon dioxide, and other waste and repurposing it within the farm. By partnering with local businesses and institutions I hope to create an educational program to help teach community members skills and practices that enrich the community as a whole.

Organic Practices

The goal of my business plan is to create interconnecting systems to achieve sustainability. With that in mind, I seek to use organic practices whenever possible. I use only natural soil amendments, I integrate biological controls for disease and pests, and reduce energy/material waste as much as possible. I hope to source local organic waste from homes and businesses, along with leaf/wood inputs to set up large scale composting, which in turn helps to prevent methane release from landfills.
