Vision for the Farm

Our vision is to establish a model regenerative farm and interactive experience for gallery visitors. Our vision includes revitalizing fruit orchards on a portion of the property and cultivating approximately 1-2 acres for seasonal crops and a cut flower garden. An additional half-acre will be dedicated to small livestock, such as goats or sheep. We are currently collaborating with a local non-profit organization to host an annual native plant fundraiser on the property, with plans to potentially evolve into a native plant nursery.

The gallery, which showcases nature-inspired art, crafts, games, and books, will incorporate locally grown produce to enhance the visitor experience. Strategically located on US 31, just minutes from downtown Charlevoix and numerous wedding venues, our farm is ideally positioned to meet the growing demand for cut flowers in the local event industry.

Acreage description

Cycling Salamander is situated on a historic farmstead, originally settled circa 1900. Located conveniently off US 31, the property features gently rolling terrain, a small pond, hardwood trees (including maple and black walnut), and several heritage apple trees that continue to bear fruit, though in need of pruning. Since the mid-1960s, the site has housed artist studios and a gallery. The tillable acreage comprises approximately 1-2 acres.

Description of the property’s current condition, current use(s), and past use(s)

The proposed cultivated areas of the property and kept mowed to keep autumn olives from taking hold.  The other areas of the property are mowed early in the spring to knock down grass to allow native plants to take hold. Summer 2025, we will be digging up sod to establish garden beds in cultivated areas. There is a small outbuilding that is suitable for chickens or goats.
