This is a working farm, run by Michigan State University.  We are studying sustainable agricultural practices, waterway conservation and how quickly we can regenerate organic materials in the soil. Looking for a special person or group of people who are interested in local agriculture. Learn and grow with us as we look to expand our influence and capabilities.

Transition Agreement

Farm Seeker/Farm Owner Partnership

We are working towards transitioning our 100 acres tillable to represent our values.  We want to participate in the local food economy more through things like supporting students at MSU learning to farm organically, agroforestry projects, pollinator plots and honey bees, a possible incubator farm and maybe farm to table dining as our "value add" to support all of these other endeavors financially.  Our farm is located in a wonderful community yet the homes and other farmers are all desperately disconnected.  We are working on creating a path along the front of our property which would allow residents both a place to walk off of the road, but also and most importantly a place to gather in an unstructured way, ,much like a side walk would  do in a residential area.  We may try to also put in some type of cafe along this path so that people can come out in the nicer months and enjoy an ice cream or something of this nature while they are walking.  A type of destination stop where farmers could meet one another and become friends and hopefully help each other out.   In order to do this, I have already contacted the planning and zoning commission about providing additional farmer housing, and they have directed me to the Barry County Chamber of commerce.  The Barry County Chamber of commerce is wonderful and they are very excited about my project.  I hope to begin adding additional housing soon, as the agroforestry and all of these other projects will require many more workers and I want them to have a great life and a place to live in community together.  We have looked into a cohousing model, but are still in the beginning design and permission phase.  We need more housing.
