Vision for the Farm

Farm Directors Dr. Charlie Brennan and Bridget O'Brien of Garden Juju Collective are guiding Gateway Farm toward a diverse, resilient, and community-centered future.

Our next chapter, following a successful transition to aligned investors or buyers, includes:

  1. A heritage farm animal sanctuary
  2. A four-season education and event space
  3. A full-service farm stop, shop, and café

These additions will deepen local engagement, create new revenue streams, and expand the farm’s role as a vibrant hub for food, learning, and connection.

We're committed to a thoughtful, values-aligned transition and welcome conversations with those interested in carrying this vision forward. A more detailed summary is available to serious parties upon request.

Acreage description

Gateway Farm is a regenerative farm hub located near bustling Plymouth and other southeast Michigan suburbs. We grow organic produce for our community through farmers' markets, an on-site farmstand, and a thriving CSA program. Our 12-acre landscape includes:

4 acres of annual USDA-certified organic market gardens—ideal for vegetables, herbs, and cut flowers

4 acres devoted to a permaculture-inspired Food Forest—featuring perennial berms, ponds, swales, and over 250 edible or native plant species

4 acres of buildings, pathways, and infrastructure—the farmstand, barns/hoophouses, educational/event spaces, workshops, and access roads

We host a range of offerings and events including farm-to-table dinners, seasonal markets, guided farm tours, yoga & wellness programs & hands-on educational workshops. Our indoor hoop house space, The Wild Fig, and our outdoor event field are both available for programming and seasonal gatherings.

Description of the property’s current condition, current use(s), and past use(s)

This is a 13-acre working organic farm with fully operational infrastructure, established soil systems, and ongoing regenerative land care. The property includes annual market gardens, a permaculture-inspired Food Forest, and community-serving buildings and event areas. All zones are actively in use.

The annual gardens span 4 acres and are USDA-certified organic, with well-drained beds supported by low-till methods, active composting, and strategic fertility management. The Food Forest covers another 4 acres and incorporates perennial berms, swales, ponds, and over 250 edible or native plant species, designed for long-term resilience and ecosystem function.

The farm’s infrastructure includes a renovated farmhouse, barns with wash/pack space, walk-in coolers, microgreens systems, and event space. Six growing houses (hoop houses and high tunnels) support seedling production and extend the growing season. On-site tools and equipment include a tractor with attachments, a BCS walk-behind tractor, multiple utility vehicles, a compost tea brewer and sprayer, and a large-scale compost and vermicompost system that cycles farm-generated organic matter back into the soil.

The land also features rewilded ponds, riparian restoration zones, habitat support systems, and maintained pathways and access roads. Three wells and functioning septic and electrical systems support year-round use.

The site formerly operated as a golf driving range. Since 2016, it has been transformed into a biodiverse, soil-focused, community-serving farm landscape ,  now supporting food production, habitat repair, education, and year-round programming.

Additional Information

Gateway Farm was established in 2016 by Mary Emmett and her family, owners of Plymouth Orchards. Since then, the vision has grown into a thriving community hub centered on sustainable farming, education, wellness, and ecological regeneration.

The farm operates in collaboration with Plymouth Orchards and Garden Juju Collective, and currently supports a seasonal team of 15–20 staff members, along with a dedicated year-round management team.

As we look to the future, we are seeking mission-aligned buyers or partners who share our commitment to organic food, regenerative practices, community resilience, and education as a form of activism and empowerment

Soil Type(s)

Our soil is heavy clay, but it's being actively and successfully improved through a variety of regenerative and certified organic practices. These include no-till cultivation, strategic drainage and riparian repair, generous soil amendments (azomite, biochar, organic manure), consistent mulching, and frequent applications of compost tea and effective ecological pest management. We also prioritize polycultures, pollinator support, and living systems that restore soil structure, fertility, and resilience — supporting a thriving landscape that now includes over 250 edible and native plant species.
